This item was filled under [ Technology ]

In a breakthrough that might change a few minds about the battery-swap concept, Nissan says that they have succeeded in tests that would extend the range of the LEAF and other electric cars up to 186 miles on each charge, almost double today’s range with an improved battery.

Nissan has developed a new battery combination by adding small amounts of cobalt and nickel to the manganese in their current batteries. Now it’s a real mouthful: a lithium nickel manganese cobalt oxide cathode battery, or NMC.

Toyota May Bring Back MR2 Sports Car As a Hybrid

This item was filled under [ Technology ]

I have many a fond memory of my friend’s old supercharged Toyota MR2. The peppy two-seater was a rarity for its day; an affordable, fun, mid-engine sports car from the generally conservative Toyota. Pistol-shaped camera concept is point-and-shoot fuh real

Cute little concept begets cute little name shock. The Aimat, a creation of Franziska Dierschke, is a pinhole camera stuffed in the body of a pistol — and a lime-green one at that. What is it about the current craze of styling everyday objects to look like guns? Still, I guess it’s safer than having guns styled to look like every day objects, not to mention a damn sight cooler than this one.

Care-O-bot offers helping hand via cold steely grip

Equipped with a somewhat menacing set of arms and a circuit-filled face only a programmer could love, the Care-O-bot has a deceptively cuddly name. Developed by the Fraunhofer Institute for Manufacturing Engineering and Automation (IPA) in Stuttgart, the robot is designed to assist humans with their daily routine tasks.

Revealed at last week’s International Robot Exhibition, the automaton could use a bit of softening before installation in the homes of humans around the globe. You can see video of the Care-O-bot in action here.
