'Pong Prom' turns the classic into one sensual game

You’re already familiar with the classic game, Pong: there are two paddles, one on each side of the screen, and you try to keep the ball that bounces between them from flying off your side. Well, a chap by the name of Ed Keeble has decide to update the revered title, but with a sexy twist. Instead of using a joystick, two players control their paddles by slow dancing with one another.

An accelerometer built into each suit keeps track of each player’s swaying and guides each paddle back and forth accordingly, as Keeble describes it:

The project uses the Lilypad Arduino platform to control game play, run the display, and communicate between devices. Patches of conductive fabric on the shoulders, hips, and cuffs of the shirts are used to create a serial connection between the Arduinos. An accelerometer attached at the back of the neck allows each player to control their game paddle by rocking their partner back and forth.

Show your allegiance with these video game console ornaments

Show your allegiance with these video game console ornaments

Thanks to Etsy user “useyourdigits,” you can finally fly your colors this Christmas. Well, actually, only the color red — but it’s the shape of the controller that counts, right?

Each is precisely cut with a laser, and there’s an option for a Wiimote, Xbox 360 controller, the PlayStation’s DualShock (sorry, fans — no Sixaxis), and even retro options hailing from the N64, NES, Genesis and Dreamcast. Buyer be warned, though: I hear the Xbox one overheats, the DualShock is in trouble with the law, and the Wiimote will look awful by your HDTV. Ha! Just kidding.

Unfortunately, it looks like the ornaments are all sold out, and won’t be restocked until next year. DIY project? Which console controller would you want hanging on your tree?

Breathable wine glass makes decanting automatic

Wine needs to breathe, you know. Without allowing it to come in contact with the air, all of its complex flavors won’t come out and you won’t enjoy the full wine experience. Every wine expert knows that!

But if you’re too lazy to get a decanter and really do things right, these new Breathable Wine Glasses can do the work for you. Just pour your wine in and the oxygenizing treatment on the inside of the glass will give you a nice opened-up glass of wine in just a couple of minutes. And then, the best part: drinking it.

Oppo Android phone arrives next year, straight from the 22nd century

We’ve reviewed Oppo DVD players — the world’s best — and now it looks like the company’s learned something from its foray into building sexy portable media players. Check out this smartphone Oppo might release next year, running the Android operating system and sporting a 3.5″ WVGA capacitive touchscreen.

Nice. At first, that looked like a slide-out transparent display with edge lighting, but no, it’s a bit thick for our tastes. See the gallery below for details. Slim it down a bit, Oppo, and price it right, and you’ll have our undivided attention.

UPDATE: Thanks to our astute commenters who pointed out WebOS on this prototype — but all sources say it’ll be Android if this phone ever ships.

2011 Mazda Miata MX-5 To Get Fuel Sipping SKY-G Engine

This item was filled under [ Technology ]

The Mazda Miata (or MX-5 as it is now called) is one of those quiet-yet-consistent cars that rarely gets much press, positive or negative. Yet it has been leading the roadster revolution for two decades now. It is a light, agile car that dominates autocross and road racing events across the country due to its availability and affordability. But for such a light, small car, it doesn’t get all that great of gas mileage, with the 2010 model averaging about 25 MPG between highway and city driving.

But Mazda aims to change that in 2011. Rumors circulating about seem to suggest the 2011 MX-5 will get a Sky-G engine, which Mazda unveiled without much fanfare. This engine could get as much as 70 mpg while still cranking out a respectable 150 horsepower in the featherweight roadster.

Zune HD Twitter app rolls out tomorrow

Microsoft just told us it’s planning to release a Twitter app for the Zune HD personal media player. The free app will be available tomorrow morning at 9 AM, downloadable via the Zune software on a PC or over a wireless connection.

So now the Zune takes the next step. It has a long way to go before it reaches the 100,000+ apps of its competitors, but this is a good start. We especially like the fact that all the Zune apps are free, albeit with advertising. And that super-clean OLED screen will be just right for some serious tweeting.

All Electric Grand Prix Coming To Paris Next Year

This item was filled under [ Technology ]

Most of the technology we take for granted in our daily drivers had to work a long, harrowing course on the race track before every making it to our driveways. The money and competition that fuels high speed races often perfects technology on the track before making it to market. This fact has not gone unnoticed in the Green Revolution and why it needs to cozy up to some speed freaks and show the world that fast and green go hand in hand.

The organizers of this years TTXGP electric motor cycle race realize this perhaps better than anyone. Since the TTXGP was such a hit, they are kicking it up a notch with an all-electric race through the Levellois bourough of Paris. Sweet!
