You may have noticed that things look a little different around here. It’s true: DVICE just got a makeover. We love the results — not just because our new layout is shiny and new, but because it makes it easier to find what you’re looking for. We cut out a lot of moldy old links, put in some intuitive icons, and made the site friendlier to popular social networks. With a cherry on top.

We know. We know! We’ve been taking our time on this. Trust us, it was worth it. The response to our “Win Our CES Swag” Twitter contest was so unexpectedly huge that we needed extra time to go through all the entries to make sure the prizes were awarded fairly. Also, the generosity of a few vendors resulted in some duplicated prizes, which allowed us to have a second place winner.

What’s the problem with batteries? Right, exactly: they run out of power too quickly. The solution? Here’s the not-so-well-kept secret about trade shows: They’re actually a great place to get free loot. Plenty of exhibitors at this week’s Consumer Electronics Show will be giving away gadgets, trinkets and gadgety trinkets. Sometimes they find a good home, but too often they end up in the bottom of some overworked writer’s laptop bag, lost and forgotten.
Not this year. Every piece of CES swag that lands into the hands of a DVICE team member goes into a pile. And that swag pile will be given away to one lucky reader.
